Jack packed a loaf, whistled, and set off to seek his fortune down a dusty lane.
First he met a cat with a crooked tail, then a dog who could bark at shadows, and a
speckled hen.
At midnight they found a lonely house where bandits counted coins — clink, clink.
The animals made a terrific noise — meow, woof, cluck, shout! — and the bandits fled into the dark forest.
Jack and his friends moved in, made stew over a crackling fire and lived happily, sharing everything fairly.
