High in the golden savanna, a mighty lion slept beneath a baobab tree, his great mane spreading like sunshine.

A tiny mouse scampered over his nose, her little feet pattering. The lion woke with a tremendous roar and caught her in one paw.

"Please spare me," sq

ueaked the mouse. "One day I may help you!" The lion laughed — a deep, rumbly laugh — and let her go.

Weeks later, hunters stretched a thick net between trees. The lion was trapped! He roared and struggled, but the ropes held.

Far away the little mouse heard his cry — a distant echo on the wind. She sprinted through grass, gnawed with her sharp tiny teethnibble, nibble, nibble — until the net snapped.

"You laughed when I said I could help," said the mouse. The lion bowed his great head and thanked her. From then on they were unlikely friends.
